Anthony Weiner - Where much is given, much is expected
Anthony Weiner – Where much is given, much is Expected
It’s been over three weeks and the media is still focusing on Congressman Weiner’s Internet exhibitionism. I mostly watch Fox News and have yet to hear a psycho gist or psychiatrist interviewed as to the motivation behind Weiner’s lascivious conduct. In as much as I have had some experience with Weiner types as a sex crime investigator, I will give the motivation behind Weiner’s behavior a shot.
He exhibits the characteristics of a narcissistic personality disorder. These individuals are often creative achievers, and may appear to be egalitarian, but make no mistake, all his efforts are geared towards feeding his narcissistic ego. This personality type craves praise and attention, and will go to extremes to gain that attention.
Many politicians, actors and singers who delight in the spotlight are to some degree narcissistic and exhibitionists. Women who are stripers and porn queens are exhibitionists. In law enforcement we labeled the exhibitionist who jumps from behind bushes and waggles his unit towards women, Indecent Exposures. This type is among the more common sex offenders and generally is not violent. All he wants to do is share with his victims his marvelous joint.
Psychiatrists tell us that the indecent exhibitionist, that is the guy some call “flasher,” who opens up his rain coat and low and behold is naked as a jaybird, that there is a connection between the exhibitionist ‘s behavior and his relationship with his mother. In his mind his mother thinks he’s simply a marvelous male, and he visually shares with his victims, his most masculine member.
Another characteristic of a narcissist is his lack of compassion for others. He is never wrong, even when he is wrong, it’s always somebody else’s fault. Nor has he any shame. The footage of Weiner lying and even after he came clean depicted little to no shame. I suspect he secretly relished the attention and as despicable as he conduct was, I doubt that he would have resigned had it not been for pressure from his wife and the Democratic moguls.
At his resignation speech someone yelled in the background, “Bye bye pervert.” The use of the word “pervert” was appropriate in his case. Look it up. Any unnatural form of sexual gratification is perverted.
It was Weiner’s narcissism that made him an effective “attack dog” for the democratic party. His provocative antics and aggressive inhibitions resulted in a symbiotic relationship between him and his acolytes or constituents. He acted out what they would like to do but did not have the opportunity, guts or clout.
There is one other thing that gave me the “willies” about the Weiner affair. Some liberals were willing to write Weiner’s lascivious conduct off as personal sexual expression that should not affect his tenure as a Congressman. It speaks at how decadent the far left has become. The problem with these indecent types, if they don’t get the desired reaction from adult women they tend to victimize teenagers and younger who are often traumatized by such bizarre behavior.
While a deputy I arrested dozens of exhibitionists and worked out a program with the Judges that if they, the exhibionists plead guilty, which 99% did, they received probation upon the condition they submit to psychological treatment. Unless the offender was a psychopath we never heard from them again. Consequently I am a firm believer in treatment. But in Weiner’s case, the lack of humility, the ease in which he lied, does not bode well towards treatment.
In any event, “where much is given, much is expected,” a gem oft repeated by Mormons. He was given power and authority and it went to his head, or should I say pecker – sorry, I couldn’t resist, the devil made me say it.
How many politicians since “Slick Willie” has allowed their Y-chromosome to run amuck “half cocked?” Weiner will not be the last. With the access to power often comes the “illusion of invulnerability.” Do we really want these types representing us?
