Rick Santorum and Don't Ask, Don't Tell

Rick Santorum and Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell

This morning, Sunday Oct. 9, 2011, Presidential Candidate, Sen. Rick Santorum, was interviewed on Fox News Sunday by Chris Wallace.   Towards the end of the interview Wallace attacked Santorum’s position on Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell with the passion of a liberal.  Wallace seemed perturbed over Santorum’s opinion that the military was socializing when it discontinued Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and welcomed openly gay homosexuals in our armed forces.  Santorum was obviously against openly gay men in the military and Wallace, by his tone and attitude disagreed with him.  Wallace felt that if gay men were willing to serve in the military we should not discriminate.  Santorum indicted there may be a social and sexual conflict between straights and gays that could affect the military as a fighting force.

I agree with Sen. Santorum and here’s why:

As an 18 year-old sailor during the Korean War our ship, a destroyer, visited ports in Japan, China, Formosa, the Philippians and Pacific Island in between.  While on liberty in Japan, China and the Philippians we were habitually propositioned by prostitutes.  Keep in mind that these countries were still recovering economically from the Second World War and the China Civil War.  It was no secrete that many of the “scarlet” girls were the sole support of large families.

If we declined, the girls went on to the next sailor.  There was no ugly scene involved in the attempted transactions.   However, when accosted by a homosexual, which happened often in British ports and San Francisco, it was not only embarrassing but sometimes confrontational.

Many of those “fags” or “queers” as they were referred to back in the fifties, were very aggressive and persistent to the point of extreme annoyance and embarrassment – because they would proposition you on a public street in full view of others.  I was not familiar with the term “masochist” back then, but in reflecting back many those depraved men portrayed characteristics of masochism, for they seemed to have no shame.

I think I can speak for 99% percent of the men on my ship, and 95% percent of the young sailors during that era.  There was very little to absolutely no tolerance towards homosexuals.  We found their love making and aggressive behavior disgusting and that’s putting it mildly.

In those days life on a destroyer could be characterized as a homosexual environment.  It was all male.  We lived elbow to elbow with our shipmates and that included the showers and “head” (head is sailor talk for restroom).  It would have been extremely offensive to shower alongside an openly gay man.  And in fact, if a gay guy had propositioned a straight sailor while at sea and the word spread, the odds of that the gay guy making it back to port was not be good.

I realize that values and priorities tend to change.  The gay American communities have succeeded in becoming a political force which has resulted in legalized same sex marriages.   It is now bad form to say anything derogatory about homosexuals.  Political correctness has become a coercive means of censoring free speech and extorting conforming behavior.  I should not be censored or demonized for expressing the opinion that homosexuality is unnatural, unhealthy and nauseous.  Nor should Sen. Santorum be censored for believing that repealing Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell was unwise.

I have previously remarked on my experiences and observations of homosexuals as a sex crime specialist while a deputy sheriff.  It was at that stage in my life I became interested in human behavior.  I found that some pedophiles sought out occupations where they came in close contact with children.  Homosexuals frequent public restrooms, for obvious reasons.  I noticed on a few occasions bullies seeking law enforcement occupations.  (In the application process we actively sought to identify this personality type and eliminated them.)

I firmly believe that many homosexuals join the armed services because it is essentially a homosexual environment.

Now that the military has opened up its arms to openly gay men I have discussed that controversial decision with some of my peers, veterans of Korea and Viet Nam – and those of us that are conservative unanimously agree we would not voluntarily serve in the military with gays.

I know that I am of the old school – that many of my values, by today’s liberal standards, are antiquated.  I still believe in chivalry, like opening doors for women, and treating women and motherhood with the highest respect.  But I don’t like women mixed in with men in the military or putting them on the front lines – no matter how much they might want to be there.  Once they started putting women on air craft carriers half of them came back pregnant from six month cruises.  It’s human nature.

The liberals want to mix men and women in the military and mix straights and gays in the military.  But on the home front they pit the have-nots against the haves – class warfare.  In the courts and legislatures the liberals want an even playing field where straights and gays have equal opportunity and equal respect.  But then the “in your face” gay pride (carnival-like) parades, the gays portray an atmosphere that creates a division between gays and straights.  You can’t legislate human nature!

Our so called progressive, liberal and libertarian friends who defend our current political correctness don’t seem to realize they pander to a double standard.  They condemn my 1950s antiquated values, but tolerate Islamic doctrines and values which are ten time, no a hundred time more antiquated than my values.
