Happy Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving
We Llewellyn’s have been a bit busy with Shauna’s flower business so I haven’t had the time to update my blog. It is an hour before the big meal, Green Bay and Baltimore are playing, so while I watch the football game I will punch out a few words between plays. In the mean time I hope all that reads this comment is munching on turkey with family and friends. My thoughts will be with our service men overseas, hoping they too have a memorable Thanksgiving. I recall while in the Navy in the early fifties three of four of my Thanksgiving dinners were overseas, one on Midway Island. I was the last one in the chow line and the only thing left was a half cooked (bloody) drumstick.
I place more value on Thanksgiving than Xmas because Xmas is so commercial. Thanksgiving is about family and country. And it hurts me when I hear Americans condemning our capitalistic way of life. It angers me when I hear social democrats demagogue patriotic Americans with blatant lies – such as Maxine Waters who accused the Tea Party of being against jobs, infrastructure repairs, not wanting to help the elderly and poor – outright blatant fabrications that tend to feed the animus of the socialists.
Which brings me to the GOP Republican Debates – the last being Nov. 22, hosted by CNN. As I watched the debate I also watched Twitter remarks by Dick Morris on the Internet which for me made the debate that much more interesting. (Green Bay just scored.)
Morris felt that Gingrich won head and shoulders over all others. I disagree. I think it was a tie between Gingrich and Romney.
Wolf Blitzer inordinately ignored Romney not giving him as much opportunity to express his opinions. CNN is a liberal media and I think it was by design. The two most liberal members of the group, Huntsman and Paul, were given more time, more questions, than in any other debate. Morris Twittered that he thought Huntsman should go across the street and join the Democrats. I thought Huntsman should move back to Peking. Ron Paul can make some good sense except when it comes to foreign affairs. I think Santorum is a smart, patriotic guy but unfortunately his demeanor is not presidential. Rick Parry, out of desperation, has come up with some radical moves like his foreign aid overhaul, which is not that bad of an idea when we give aid to our enemies.
When it comes to intelligence, knowledge and political savvy I think Michelle Buchman is on a par with Newt and Mitt and of all the candidates has the least stumbling blocks. Her weakness may be that she is a woman and too honest, too conservative and too good. She has the support of the Tea Party and right wing conservatives but can she attract independents and effectively work on the opposite side of the aisle? She has that motherly spirit that builds trust and security and if given the chance I think she has the pluck to be an American Margret Thatcher. Unfortunately she has a couple of sharp, political-wise, articulate opponents.
The current polls reflect popularity and not so much win-ability. The winner will be ultimately selected by those state delegates who will vote in the convention. With that in mind I think the leaders at the moment are Romney and Gingrich with Buchman next in line. I think that all three have what it takes to get this country back on track and making it possible for the 49% who don’t pay taxes, to pay some taxes.
There is some real good talent among the Republicans to fill those important cabinet positions like Secretary of State. It will take a hell of a good team led by the right president, including Congress to turn around what Obama and his Marxist cronies have done to this great country. (Green Bay just made another touchdown in the third quarter.) Wow, while proof reading Green Bay made another touchdown. Happy Thanksgiving. John
